Founded in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. JAVOY near Orléans, the JAVOY nurseries have specialized in the world of climbing plants. In 2010, the founding couple’s two children, Marie-Laure and Benoit, took over the reins of the family business, which they have passionately and successfully developed to this day. HORUS has been recommending them in all its projects for several years and had the opportunity to visit them in 2024 during their 40th anniversary.
A Committed Nursery
“Plante bleue,” “Fleur de France,” “Végétal local,” and “Organic farming”—JAVOY boasts numerous labels proving its concrete commitment to a cultivation method that respects both plants and the environment. Almost self-sufficient in water thanks to the forward-thinking creation of water recovery basins several decades ago, JAVOY is barely affected by summer droughts. To produce resilient and durable plants, all their container-grown crops are cultivated in the open air during the summer. In winter, they are simply sheltered in a cold greenhouse.
The Passion for Clematis
Trained in Clematis cultivation in the Netherlands, Benoit JAVOY quickly developed a collection at the nursery. Three years later, JAVOY became the leading producer in France and the fifth in Europe. As market leaders, they continue to create new cultivars that are ever more resilient and beautiful. This work has been recognized by the CCVS, which has labeled the JAVOY collection as a national collection.
An Innovative Nursery
JAVOY doesn’t stop at creating new varieties. They strive to innovate technically, particularly with the patented ICO system. Faced with the demand for “immediacy” in large-scale architectural projects, they had to produce a range of large climbing plants (C20L, C30L) for several meters in height. With their system of climbing plants grown on retractable cables using a pulley or a motor…a facade can be greened in just a few hours. What’s more, maintenance is also simplified. You just need to turn the pulley to lower the climber to the ground for pruning…no need for scaffolding or hiring qualified personnel for facade work.
